Applications eligible for the enrollment lottery can be submitted online via the link provided on our website under the “Enrollment” tab. Anyone who is unable to submit an online application may contact our offices for assistance with their submission. To help prospective parents learn more about Ocean Charter School before applying, we invite the public to attend a tour and prospective parent information meeting. These are typically held at least once per month from October to April. Our public lottery is usually held in February or March to determine wait list placement. Offers are made to the applicants in wait list order.

Yes, we offer priority categories to siblings of currently enrolled students, students who are attending or are eligible (by address) to attend Short Ave. Elementary School, children of OCS staff members, children of OCS Board of Trustees members, and students eligible (by address) to attend an LAUSD school.

The Enrollment Lottery will be held usually near the end of February over Zoom and is available to the public. All applications received during open enrollment will be included in the drawing. The Enrollment Lottery is conducted to determine applicants’ waitlist placement. You are not required to view the lottery drawing live. You can request your lottery result after the drawing is held.

OCS’ Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is for students turning 5 between June 2, 2024 and June 1, 2025 of the year they enter TK. These students will be enrolled for two years in OCS’ Kindergarten program. Kindergarten (K) is for students turning 6 between June 1 and May 31 of the year they enter K. These students will be enrolled for one year in OCS’ Kindergarten program.

Yes, the June 1st cut-off date is mandatory. We believe in a slow growth model, finding that children are much more successful in school and in life if they are given more of an opportunity to ease themselves into formal academics when they are developmentally ready.
